Progress Report 7/21/17

Still with me? Awesome!

First, I want to thank everyone who’s read/followed this blog so far. You all really know how to make this girl feel special. I promise, I’ll try not to bore you too much.

That said, these are probably going to be the more boring posts, my weekly progress reports. Each week, I’d like to give my stats and write about where I am in the process, as well as how I’m feeling about writing in general. I’ll also name my goals for the following week. I’ll do this each Friday, as I don’t normally write on Saturdays (gotta keep that day job, ya know?).

So without further ado, here is my first progress report.

Words Written This Week: 9,825

Words Written For Book So Far: 28,406 in order/55,684 total

Last Chapter of Rough Draft Completed: Chapter 8

Chapters To Go (subject to change): 15

Days Until October 11th Goal Date: 82

Thoughts: I’m not going to lie, I definitely was not as productive this week as I have been in past weeks. I got passionately wrapped up in the first book of a series on Monday (which I will absolutely review for this blog once I’ve finished the series). Though I know for a fact it’s helped ‘fertilize’ my brain, I have definitely spent time reading that I would’ve spent writing. The good news is that I’m ahead of the one-chapter-every-four-days schedule that I set up for myself earlier this month. So I have the time to spare.

As of now, I feel good about the story. Obviously, I don’t want to give anything away, but characters are behaving and the story is flowing along nicely, although the distraction this week has made me feel like my writing is a little choppy at times. Some changes to the detailed chapter outlines had to be made, but the story line didn’t demand any major revisions this week.

Since I am so far ahead of my self-imposed schedule, I think I am going to take it easy next week and try to finish reading the series I started. I think I will be much more focused and productive once I know the conclusion.

My goal for next week is to get Chapter 9 down, but not to pressure myself to do anymore while I’m so distracted.

Note to self: Be careful what you pick up for ‘light reading’. It may just sweep you away and make you forget about your goals – even if only briefly.
