Hey there. It’s me. I know I haven’t written in a while, and I owe all of my readers an explanation, so here goes…
After NaNoWriMo last November and releasing Blind Faith in January, I hit a wall. I’d known the wall was coming for some time, but I hit it hard this winter. So hard that without notice, I pretty much dropped out of sight as an author. I sincerely apologize for that, and I was trying my hardest to get it under control and come back with passion and zeal. It was taking a lot of work and patience on my part, but I was getting there.
And then, COVID-19 happened and has taken over all of our collective consciousness and upended many’s lives. Almost two weeks ago, I was laid off from my day job. It was abrupt, but not entirely unexpected. I worked for a small startup company and I knew that this level of economic uncertainty meant that anything could happen. Then, just a few days after I was laid off, the state I live in mandated a stay-at-home order limiting non-essential movement.
I’m in a better position than some, I’ll admit that. I’ve been working on getting my financial life together for the past few years and luckily, I do have some savings. My debt is minimal, my credit is in good shape. I’m not going to be in a dire situation for a while and I’m very, very grateful for that.
But what does this mean for my writing career?
As you can imagine, I’ve had to put publishing the next book in the Sweetshade series on hold until further notice. I’ll still go through with beta and the self-edit after beta, but the professional edit and proofread won’t happen until I find solid work again.
It also means that I’m not likely to have the mental capacity to write for Camp NaNoWriMo this month as planned. I’ll admit, I was not successful in preparing to write the sequel short story for Credence like I wanted to (see burnout confession above). Before all of this came down with the pandemic, I felt like a failure for not completing that, but now I can’t help but wonder if it was for the best. I do still want to write that story when life returns to normal (the new normal of course, whatever that may look like).
That’s the bad news.
The good news? Until I’m able to find steady work again, I’m going to throw most of my spare time into providing you with new free content! I knew I had so much potential and so many ideas for things I wanted to try or learn and until further notice, I have the time. I highly recommend following this blog and my social media (FB author page and personal Instagram), as well as subscribing to my newsletter!
Be safe out there.
You have it in you to complete whatever you choose to do! You have proven that many times. Right now in our life this virus has taught us we can’t take things for granted, we need to reset our lives and prioritize. We need to take this time to do self care.
You will be fine and you will get back to doing what you want to do. We all believe in you! Love you!
