Thoughts?

With all of the stress and change I’ve had this year so far, I’ve been feeling pretty uninspired lately. I’m thankful that I’m on the third draft of my next book, as editing is not nearly as taxing as writing fresh words. If I had to write a new story right now, I’d be truly afraid of burning out before I could finish it.

But, just in the nick of time, I got a new blast of creative enjoyment last weekend when I attended the Sonic Temple festival. If you know me, you know that I fixate on a particular band, musician, author, series, etc., until I’m sick of it. Which is amazing because it means I appreciate an artist’s work on a much deeper level than I would as a casual fan. Not knocking the casual thing, I’m a casual fan for a lot of things. But every so often, something grabs my attention and refuses to let go. On Friday evening, the band Ghost did just this. I’d seen them live before a few years ago and I’ve always enjoyed their music on a casual level. But seeing them live Friday absolutely blew me away. They’ve grown into their sound and image and frankly, I adore it. To the point where I’ve downloaded a few of their songs to listen to in the car and bought a couple of shirts to add to my band tee rotation.

It’s with this experience that I’m reminded of the importance of refilling your creative well. Mine was getting pretty dried out. Reading Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King helped a bit, but other than that, I haven’t had a blast of new inspiration in a very long time. Not saying Ghost will inspire me to write my next book or whatever, but perhaps a little fan fiction? Maybe a lyric will lodge in my brain and inspire me that way? Who knows. All I know is that I’m very grateful I was able to attend.

Goals For The Coming Week

I’d like to complete the fourth draft of my next book. I’d also like to read and review Adam Only by Roe Horvat.

Credence News

No new reviews or shout-outs to report, but sales are still steady and I am still pleased with how it’s doing.
